Oekraïners naar Olympische spelen

Oekraïne zal 245 atleten sturen naar de Olympische Zomerspelen 2012 in Londen, heeft de persdienst van het Nationaal Olympisch Comite gemeld, naar de woorden van Sergey Bubka, chef van de missie.

De Oekraïners zullen uitkomen in 28 sporten.

78 Oekraïense sporters zullen deelnemen aan atletiek, 24 aan roeien, 14 bij het zwemmen, tien aan worstelen en judo, zeven aan het boksen, negen gewichtheffen, acht bij schieten, en negen bij duiken.

Daarnaast zullen Oekraïense atleten deelnemen aan schermen, tennis en tafeltennis, moderne vijfkamp, ​​boogschieten, ritmische gymnastiek, zeilen en vele andere sporten.

Het Oekraïense Olympisch team bevat bekende sporters, zoals de Olympische kampioenen Vasyl Lomatsjenko (boksen), Olga Charlan (sabelschermen), Artur Ayvazyan (schieten), Iryna Merleni (worstelen), Inna Osypenko-Radomska (kano) Natalia Dobrynska (atletiek), zilveren medaillewinnaar Vasyl Fedoryshyn (worstelen) en de bronzen medaillewinnaars Yuriy Cheban (roeien en kano), Illia Kvasha en Oleksiy Pyrohov (duiken).

Volgens het Nationaal Olympisch Comite had Oekraïne een 230-man sterk team op de Olympische Spelen van 1996 in Atlanta, 231 atleten streden in Sydney in 2000, 245 in Athene in 2004 en 254 in Beijing in 2008.
